Today is the anniversary of the day our Lord and Savior, Jesus rose from the dead, and thus delivered anyone who believes in Him, and is baptized from eternal death. Scott S. Powell has written that this day is The Day that Transformed the World Forever. Any fair reading of history from ancient times will show that is true. Before Jesus entered history the world was a brutal place. Human life was cheap, and people were killed for seemingly no reason at all. The poor, the weak, the sick or injured, were left to fend for themselves, with no help. While many people today are not Christian, our society does attempt to help these people, which is a result of Christian charity. Do we do enough? Of course not. But the world is indeed a better place than it was before Christ was born.
Powell has it right when he says that we don't have to do anything. Indeed, God has done everything, because we are powerless to save ourselves. What charity we provide is as a result of Gods's grace. Jesus changed the lives of the people he met, and they in turn carried the message of God's great love for us, but it is the Holy Spirit who enters each persons heart and begins to build a new person. These "new people" in enough numbers have slowly but surely changed the world. All because 2000 years ago, a man died on the cross and was raised three days later. Hallelujah!
