I was out of town yesterday and so I am catching up on my reading file and email. One article that caught my eye, and which deserves to be brought to gentle readers attention is a piece by J. B. Shurk at the American Thinker entitled If We the People Were Actually In Charge. Shurk writes here of the tendency of many people to trust their government despite all evidence to the contrary. In truth though, it is not "government" per se that one must not trust, but government officials. No man can be fully trusted, even a saint, even a pope. For the church itself is simply a sinners anonymous club. Only Christ can be trusted, only the Kingdom of God is uniformly true.
Shurk starts out his essay bemoaning the stubborn idea that government can be trusted, while showing what government has done to earn our distrust.
Perhaps no greater delusion stubbornly persists from one generation to the next than the idea that governments can be trusted. Sure, they conduct their affairs in secret, spy on their own people, and arm themselves to the teeth — but, by all means, trust them as you would a dear relative. Sure, they steal from productive citizens, manipulate markets, and swell their bureaucratic armies with ever-growing taxes — but, by all means, trust them as you would a close business associate. Sure, they impose their beliefs on our culture, ban the public expression of unfavored religions, and interpose their agents between parents and children — but, by all means, trust them as you might a pastor, rabbi, or priest.
Even after the global wars, genocides, engineered famines, and kill squads that made the last century the most barbaric in human history, it is exceedingly common to hear Justin Trudeau, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and others from the Church of Big Government mock ordinary citizens for not putting absolute faith in government institutions. Distancing themselves from the State-sanctioned atrocities of Hitler, Stalin, and Mao while nonetheless pursuing policies that similarly elevate the organs of government and intimidate citizens into compliance, today's ruling-class cult leaders pretend that the twentieth century's mass slaughters could never be repeated here and now — as if the predisposition toward mass murder were a peculiarly German, Russian, or Chinese prerogative and not a tragic ailment endemic to the whole human race....snip...
Never forget how close we came during COVID-1984's period of mass hysteria to the imposition of "quarantine camps" that could be used to intern Western citizens who had the misfortune of testing positive for the common cold or the audacity to resist police-State edicts. In Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States, government officials were eager to adopt identical measures as had already been deployed in communist China to isolate citizens for months at a time. With the full-throated support of nefarious institutions such as the World Economic Forum and the World Health Organization, Chinese totalitarianism was heralded as an ideal system to be emulated — rather than as a contemptible vehicle for committing crimes against humanity that should have been universally scorned. Traditional Western deference to individual self-determination and respect for personal freedoms, on the other hand, were cast aside and demonized as a "dangerous" philosophy that must be purged. At some point, a rational and moral person must take a sober look around and confront reality as it is and not through the prism of comforting delusions. History can be either a wise teacher saving us from future danger or a prophet spelling out in detail what miseries lie ahead. Either way, ignoring her lessons will not forestall the hard choices to come. Whenever and wherever individual freedoms are subordinated to the whims of an all-powerful State, death and destruction are certain to follow.

But too many of our fellow citizens remain deliberately unaware. It is as if they have turned away from the news, as if not looking will make it go away. I have been tempted too. Hillary Clinton recently called for the “deprogramming” of a large percentage of the American populace because they don’t hold the same leftist political beliefs and values that she does. Moreover, the FBI essentially labeled MAGA supporters as “terrorists” whose every move should be scrutinized. And the U.S. edges ever closer to becoming a one-party autocracy.
As those of us whom they crudely and preposterously smeared are neither cattle nor chattel, the only proper, indeed moral, response to them is: “Frightfully sorry, but it is not yours to dictate how we act or what we say.” Nor, I might add, do they (and their ilk) have the right to force us to go to re-education camp.
Can you imagine if our Founders were here today, and the likes of Hillary Clinton told them they needed to be “deprogrammed?” Or if the Biden administration threatened to take away their First and Second Amendment rights? Or if Deep State minions or school board functionaries branded them terrorists if they spoke up on behalf of their children? Dearest Lord in heaven it would be beautiful to witness!
Hillary continues to show us that we dodged a bullet when Trump got elected instead of her. Whew! Meanwhile, Mark Lewis, our faithful commenter in the East at Townhall.com is extremely concerned that Americans haven't recognized that the Democrats are channeling the likes of Mao. In a recent CNN interview, Hillary Clinton made the following statements: “He’s [Trump] now defending himself in civil actions and criminal actions, and when do they [his supporters] break with him? Because at some point, you know, maybe there needs to be a formal deprogramming of the cult members. Something needs to happen.”
I’ve been writing about this for months, warning America with all of my being and efforts, about the Leftism of the Democratic Party and its leadership. As we look at the last 100 years of Leftist, communist dictatorships, we see hundreds of millions of innocent deaths, and people torturedand tossed into gulags and concentration camps by godless regimes who demand complete obedience. And, part of that treatment by Leftists—Stalin, Mao, Castro, the whole lot—has been “re-education camps,” i.e., “deprogramming” of their political enemies. That is EXACTLY what Hillary Clinton is calling for here. Thank you, Chairwoman Mao Ze Clinton, for proving exactly what I have been constantly warning about. Ask the Uyghurs in China today about “deprogramming.”
This is horrifying, folks. It is very, very treacherous. There is nothing on the planet more dangerous to the American people and system than what Hillary Clinton is calling for—the “re-education” of the Democratic Party’s political opposition. They have to be “deprogrammed” toreject what they believe, and brainwashed not to follow Donald Trump. “Something needs to happen,” Madame General Secretary Clinton tells us. People are not allowed to be supporters of Donald Trump. Those people are “cult members.” Supporting Donald Trump now makes you a member of a cult. So, you need to be deprogrammed. There can be absolutely nothing more un-American, more frightening than what Hillary Clinton is calling for.
Actually, gentle readers who follow this blog will know that I agree with Lewis. This is frightening. That a major Democrat leaders can publicly call for what amounts to gulags for half the country is terrifying. Gentle readers will know that I have characterized the Left (Communists, Fascists, Progressives, Marxists, etc) as Satanic or Luciferian. It is not because of their policies on the surface level that I hurl that accusation. On the surface, their policies can be criticized as misguided and naive. Rather it is what lays behind these policies that reveal the Satanic nature of the Left.
Is racism bad? Surely, wherever it rears its ugly head. But the Left use racism as a cudgel against people who don't have a racist bone in the body to silence them. Gun control is another area where the Left prattles on about it, even though we have shown a mountain of statistics that it is at best a misguided effort, if it is about controlling crime. But of course, it is not about that at all. It is really about disarming us so they can more easily throw us in the gulags. Then there is the so-called "transgenderism" idea. We are characterized as haters if we don't go along with the nonsense. Hate is another weapon the Left likes to use against us, even though they are the real haters. While they claim to be helping people achieve their true gender, what they are really about is destroying the family to make the state the god of the people. The Left is in thrall to Satan, and it is literally impossible for anyone who spews Leftist talking points to be a Christian. Perhaps that is why every Communist government banishes Christians or puts them in chains.
I started this post off talking about why you cannot trust your government. George Washinton was fully aware of this, characterizing government as being like fire: a dangerous servant and a fearful master. Our Constitution is just some words on paper. People must read it, defend it, make it a reality. In order to do that, we must pick our leaders much more carefully. But in any case, government is always a Faustian bargain with the Devil.
