When I was with the Naval Facilities Engineering Command in Washington, DC, I worked on and off with a Sikh, so I learned a few things about Sikhism. As are many Sikhs, his surname was Singh, and he carried a discrete dagger called a kirpan. I understood this to imply that Sikhism is not a pacific religion, though it is monotheistic and has many principles similar to Christianity. Of course, Christianity is not pacific either. Sikhism, however, is not Christian, and the god they worship is not our God. Still, they fit right in a society that is basically Christian but allows freedom of religion. Sikhs are not a proselytizing religion.
I was reminded of all this when I read Ranjit Singh's article at Bearing Arms entitled Gun grabbers exploit 2012 Sikh slaughter, but Sikhs don't heed them. I learned a little bit more in the article about why Sikhs carry the kirpan. It is because they were persecuted by their Muslim rulers. The kirpan symbolizes that they will defend themselves. Very much in line with our Gadsden Flag. So, it makes sense that Sikhs are buying handguns for self-protection. Their kirpans are today religions symbols, much as a Christian might wear a cross or crucifix. But in a modern society, and handgun can be carried discretely, but affords protection from those who would take the lives of the innocent.
Handguns are modern kirpans, much like the AR-15 is a modern musket. Sikhs know that intuitively. They’re embracing guns. The Storefront Sikhs during the 2020 riots were an example.
Good for them. Go read the whole article, and remember that anyone on our side should be regarded as an ally
